Setting Sail

So as I've already said I’m going to start collecting and painting a dark elf force.  My plan is to buy units in small manageable chunks and get them painted before moving onto the next unit.  My hope is that at any one time the models that I own will constitute a full usable army within the Warhammer system, albeit a small force to begin with.

I have always loved the concept of the Dark Elf sea fleet and Black Arks especially.  With that in mind I thought the best way to start my new collection would be a small raiding based army.  Through my nefarious means I have acquired 2 units of black ark corsairs and this chap:

The fleet master model is just awesome, I mean come on the guys walks around on a peg leg sword!!!!

With my first lot of raiders secured I suppose I’d better start thinking about colour scheme.  My initials thoughts are for sea based colours, deep greens and blues which suggest a rolling sea storm hitting the shore.  This image is a good demonstration of what I’m trying to achieve.

I suppose I’d better start going through my box O’paints to see what supplies I need. Gulp!

  2. Ha ha! What sort of maniac replaces their wooden leg with a blade?! I wonder if that give him an extra attack? That model looks proper serious. I'm loving the animal bone being used as some sort of visor.

Games Workshop used to produce a high gloss paint for making water scenery. Maybe a coat or two over the cloaks might make the models still look wet?

    This is the stuff.

    1. I would check out these first (cheaper than the GW stuff):

You could use GW 'ardcoat to give a gloss effect (or any paint on gloss varnish really though the GW one is supposed to be good).

It's a fantastic idea for a paint scheme!

  3. What about making the bases look like the deck of a boat? Just get some milliput, apply then add large grooves for planks and thin grooves for grain! You can then add water effects to this to make it look like its wet. You could also have spattered blood, the odd rat, rope etc. It would look really unique!

    2. I like that, I may have to make a scenic movement tray to go with them.
